A total of 1,189 Primary Seven candidates failed the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) mock examinations in Gulu City, according to results released on Wednesday by the City Examination Board.
The results show that out of the 5,668 candidates that sat the mock examinations, 693 attained Division One, 1,972 were in Division Two, while 841 candidates were in Division Three.
A total of 1,189 candidates failed while 64 candidates missed the examinations.
Richard Irwenyo, the Gulu City Education Officer, described the overall performance as moderate, noting that 77 percent of the candidates attained Divisions One to Four.
However, he said the 1,189 candidates who failed remain a major concern and called for concerted efforts to support them ahead of the final examinations.
Irwenyo said the city education department has directed the school head teachers to conduct subject by subject analysis on all the candidates that failed the mock exams in order to take correction measures.
