At least 14 South Sudanese nationals have been confirmed critically injured in Sunday afternoon road crash along the Gulu Kampala Highway.

The 4pm road crash involving a commuter taxi Reg. No. SSD 257Z occurred in the areas of Nga-ato swamp in Minakulu Town Council, Oyam district.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle heading to Kampala tried to overtake a trailer which was also heading to the same direction before it lost control and veered off the road, hitting the Karuma-Gulu water project pipeline and rollover.

The injured were rushed to Pope John Paul Hospital Aber, commonly known as Atapara Hospital, for medical treatment.

Damaged Pipeline

The incident has led to the temporary shut-down of the Gulu-Karuma water supply network by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NW&SC).

The Karuma-Gulu water supply and sanitation project was completed in November and commenced operation on December, 31, last year.
