At least 16 passengers have been confirmed injured in a road crash involving a bus belonging to Makome Bus Company along the Kampala-Gulu Highway on Tuesday morning.
The bus Reg. No. UAR 339M from Kampala to Gulu reportedly lost control and overturned at around 5am in the areas of Kisona village in Kiryandongo district.
Julius Akiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says the injured were later evacuated from the road crash scene to Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment.
Okot Charles Kit, the Makome Bus Company Director, confirmed the report saying another bus was provided by the company to transport the victims to Gulu.
According to the 2022 police crime report, the country registered 20, 394 cases of road accidents in 2022.
Out of every 100 crashes, 22 people died while 61 percent of all accidents were a result of reckless driving.
According to the 2018 statistics from Makerere University School of Public Health, at least 9,000 people in Uganda die annually due to road crashes.
