Amuru District Security Committee has launched investigation into circumstances under which 20 suspects escaped from Amuru Central Police Station Cells.
The suspects who were arrested on charges of capital and civil offenses escaped on Tuesday morning at around 10am after breaking out of their detention cells. According to security, out of the 20 suspects who escaped, 10 have been re-arrested while 10 were still at large.
Geoffrey Orsbon Oceng, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner who doubles as the Chairperson District Security Committee, confirmed the report saying the cells guard whose name has not been revealed for purposes of investigation has been arrested while efforts to re-arrest missing suspects are underway.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police Spokesperson, was not available for comments since he didn’t answer our repeated phone calls.
Amuru detention facilities are located within the en-closer of Amuru central police station which is also housing several offices including that of the DPC and CID.
