At least 41 suspected attackers were killed and over 90 others captured following coordinated assaults on police and UPDF installations across the Rwenzori sub-region on Saturday.

The attackers targeted Kasese Central Police Station and Rughendare Police Post in Kasese District.

They also attacked Malindi and Kakuka military detachments in Bundibugyo District and attempted to raid Canon Apollo School in Fort Portal City.

Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, appealed to families of the deceased to go to Fort Portal to collect the bodies for burial.

He said those seeking to claim the bodies must present clear identification, including an LC I letter, a photograph of the deceased, and any other information linking them to the victims.

He also urged families with missing persons to check the mortuary or contact the police to verify if their relatives are among those in custody.

Maj. Robert Kijuma, the Acting PRO for Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa, said the bodies of the killed attackers will soon be transferred to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital to allow relatives to collect them.

Security communication officers noted that the situation has since normalized, but urged communities to remain vigilant.

The UPDF confirmed that the suspected ringleader of the attackers, Asuman Mukirania Muganzi, a resident of Kakuka II Village, Kakuka Parish, Sindilela Sub-county, Bundibugyo District, was neutralized during the operation.
