Authorities have diverted heavy traffic along the Kamdini–Karuma Bridge highway following an embankment failure on a bridge connecting Kamdini to Karuma.
The incident occurred along the Karuma–Kamdini section of the Gulu Highway, approximately one kilometer from the Karuma–Olwiyo/Pakwach junction, near the URA checkpoint on the Kamdini side.
For safety reasons, the affected section has been cordoned off, and traffic is being managed on a single lane.
The Ministry of Works and Transport has issued a diversion, advising heavy trucks and trailers heading to Gulu to divert at the Karuma–Pakwach junction (URA checkpoint), proceed to Olwiyo Trading Centre—approximately 51 kilometers from Karuma Junction—and then turn right to connect through Anaka to Gulu City.
After assessing the bridge and its surroundings, Engineer Charles Bongomin from the Ministry said immediate intervention is required, warning that continued rainfall poses a greater risk of the entire bridge caving in.
Allan Ssempebwa Kyobe, the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, attributed the problem to heavy rains and said restoration works would begin soon.
