Gov’t To Hire 7000 Workers, Launches New Recruitment Drive

Agency

The Ministry of Public Service plans to hire close to seven thousand (6,853) government workers across 130 government agencies, ministries, and local governments. The ministry has allocated over 124 billion shillings in salaries.

The Minister of Public Service, Muluri Mukasa, told journalists in Kampala that the recruitments will be for Mulago National Referral Hospital, Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, and the districts of Mityana Municipal Council, Buyende, Kalenga, Kitagwenda, Mpigi, Obongi, and Rukiga districts.

Mukasa stressed that all public offices under acting administration should declare vacant positions to avoid reserving roles for unqualified individuals.

The Ministry prioritized local governments’ recruitment of department heads to boost program implementation, alongside key ministries like Education, Health, and Agriculture, to fill critical staffing gaps in areas such as primary education, healthcare, agricultural extension services, and parish administration.

The government has also secured an additional Shs UGx5.48 billion grant to support the recruitment drive for the new and upgraded health facilities, including Arocha HC III in Apac and Patongo Health Centre IV in Agago district.

966 will be recruited for Central Government institutions, 1,316 for Local Governments and 1,477 for Primary Care under conditional grants.

2316 positions were allocated to Primary Schools, 446 to City Urbanization, 212 to Agriculture Extension workers, and 14 to Secondary Schools.
