Mafabi Offers Equal Pay for all Teachers

Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has vowed to end the salary disparity between science and arts teachers, saying it is affecting education quality as some of art teachers have lost morale for work.

The NRM government took a decision to increase salaries of science teachers and maintained for arts and humanities teachers, raising a concerns of discrimination.

President Yoweri Museveni repeatedly at different occasions defended the decision saying the science teachers are at the moment more critically needed.

Campaigning at Arua Primary School playground in Arua City, Mafabi pledged that all the teachers will have equal pay and receive several other benefits to encourage them work well.

Mafabi noted that many teachers’ children drop out of school as they struggle with low salary and delayed payment amidst many responsibilities that they have.

As result of salary disparities, teachers under Uganda National Teachers Union -UNATU participated in months-long industrial action, protesting government’s decision of increasing salary only for science teachers.

They recently called-off the industrial action after Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, made commitment onbehalf of government that salary for arts and humanity teachers will be increased in the Financial Year, 2026/2027.
