Northern Uganda Creative Arts, under their umbrella body WALK, on Monday launched a new award “Peace Award” aimed at recognizing legendary artists who used music to advocate for peace in Northern Uganda.

The Award is slated for January, 1, 2025 at Kaunda grounds in Gulu City with over 200 artists expected to perform.

Their songs delivered pleas to Kony and the LRA, encouraging them to stop the violence. The music also helped people process trauma and celebrate the hope for peace, blending pain and joy.

Artists like Bosmic Otim and Jeff Korondo, being a prominent example, delivered messages of reconciliation and hope amidst conflict. Others are the late Dida Moses, Lady Grace Atim, Pamela Peace, BSG Lalongo and Opiyo Geoffrey Twongweno.

President Yoweri Museveni and General Caleb Akandwanaho, the operation wealth creation chief Coordinator and other UPDF generals have also been selected to be rewarded for their role in pacifying northern Uganda.

Speaking during the media launch at Kaunda grounds, Solomon Aboda, the Chairperson Walk Creative Arts, said the event is to give back and also to recognise artists who used music to advocate for peace in Northern Uganda.
