The Uganda People’s Defense Force -UPDF have launched investigation into a statement allegedly made by a section of former Lord Resistance Army (LRA) rebel fighters threatening to return to the bush, citing lack of support from the gov’t to re-integrate into the community.
In early December last year, a video of a group of people alleged to be former LRA warlords started making rounds on social media platforms that they will return to the bush to fight against the government.
In the videos, the group alleged that the government has failed to support them to re-integrate into the community after convincing them to leave the war and come back home.
Major General Felix Busizoori, the UPDF Fourth Division Infantry Commander, confirmed the report saying all the culprits that issued the statement will be arrested and charged with treason.
Maj. Gen. Busizoori condemned the threats as reckless and urged former combatants to channel their concerns through peaceful and lawful means.
Sam Kolo, the former leader LRA soldiers has since apologized to UPDF and the government for the statement issued by a section of the former LRA rebels and assured the government that no Ex-LRA soldier will go back to the bush.
Meanwhile, Rwot Charles Onama, the Chief of Pajimo clan is urging the UPDF to forgive the group adding that the group is being used by some individuals for their personal gain.
