Police in the Aswa West are investigating a case of murder by stabbing following the death of a police officer in Gulu City.
The deceased Akera Harriet a police constable attached to Namukosi police station in Mityana district was stabbed to death on Wednesday at around 2:30 pm from Library ward next to Gulu Jamia mosque.
It’s alleged that Akera was stabbed to death by her boyfriend identified as Apire Denis Brain “26” a mobile money agent operating in Gulu city.
Preliminary report indicates that the two had been in a relationship since 2023 but had recently developed misunderstandings and Akera travelled to Gulu to resolved the matter.
The couple is said to have first met in the morning at a local guest house before the afternoon incident.
During their second meeting, a quarrel broke out and in the course of the dispute, the officer reportedly attempted to arrest the suspect, accusing him of theft.
Police say the suspect then pulled out a knife and stabbed her in the back and shoulder.
Kamba Amiir; the Deputy Resident City Commissioner confirmed the incident to Mega FM and saying the suspect was rescued from an angry mob and is currently in police custody
According to the 2025 police annual crime report, 292 people were stabbed to death.
