The Northern Uganda Filmmakers Association, NUFA, has honoured Rt. Rev. MacLeod Baker Ochola at the second edition of the NUFA Awards 2026.
The prestigious awards ceremony, held on Saturday at Acholi Inn in Gulu City, brought together creatives and cultural leaders under the theme, “The Stories That Redefine Us.”
NUFA President Ojok Odong while speaking to our reporter said the honorary award was presented to Bishop Ochola in recognition of his outstanding contribution to peacebuilding in the Acholi sub-region.
During the ceremony, Bishop Ochola applauded NUFA for the recognition and called on Acholi young people to embrace storytelling as a means of preserving Acholi culture. Rt. Rev. MacLeod Baker Ochola is an Anglican Bishop in Uganda who served as the inaugural Bishop of Kitgum Diocese from 1995 to 2002.
This year’s jury final award list shows, Hurdles of Hope winning Best Short Film, while Karamoja sub region took Best Feature Film while Atim Evelyn won Best Actress. Reverie won for Best Director, Akena Godfrey won Best Actor, and Emma Okello won Best Editor.
Other winners include Beauty Without Teeth for Best Documentary, Last Goodbye by Joshua Adoli Omara for Best Screenplay, and Becoming Her, Becoming Free for Best Cinematography by Lucas Ravie. The NUFA Awards aim to recognise individuals and creatives who continue to shape narratives and promote cultural identity through film and storytelling in the region.
