Peter Ogwang, the state Minister for Sports, has urged hotel owners across the country to upgrade their facilities to meet international standards ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Minister Ogwang emphasized the need for the private sector to align with the Confederation of African Football, CAF requirements, particularly the 4-star and 5-star ratings expected to accommodate teams, officials, and fans who will come for sporting activities.

He noted that Uganda’s preparations to co-host the prestigious tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania demand high-quality services, especially in the hospitality industry, to avoid logistical challenges during the competition.

The minister added that while government continues to invest in infrastructure, including stadiums. roads, airports and training grounds, the role of hotel owners remains critical in ensuring a successful hosting experience.

Ogwang further encouraged stakeholders to view AFCON not only as a sporting event but also as an opportunity to boost Uganda’s tourism, economy and hospitality sector in the long term
