The Ministry of Water and Environment on Friday launched the construction of a state-of-the-art Water Quality and Monitoring Laboratory in Kalam Omiya Village, Paidwe Parish, Bobi Sub- County, Omoro District.
The UGX 7 billion project will be undertaken by Zhonghao Overseas Construction Company Limited and it’s expected to be delivered in a period of 12 months.
The project is funded under the Climate Resilience and Water Infrastructure for Refugees and Host Communities in Northern Uganda, supported by the European Union and the German Government through KfW.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Dr Alfred Okot Okidi, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Water and Environment, said the laboratory will play a critical role in monitoring water quality to ensure its safety for both domestic and commercial use.
Okot Andrew Obibi, the Omoro District LCV Chairperson, thanked the government for investing in the project, saying it will significantly improve water quality monitoring and contribute to better health outcomes for both the masses and livestock in the region.
