There is excitement across Amuru District following the disbursement of livestock restocking funds to hundreds of beneficiaries.
According to a report released by the District Security Committee on Tuesday, 616 out of the 638 beneficiaries selected in the first phase of the programme received their funds on Tuesday evening at around 6:00 pm.
The remaining 16 beneficiaries are expected to receive their payments before the end of the week.
Geoffrey Orsbon Oceng, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the development.
He urged recipients to use the funds for the intended purpose by purchasing cattle to improve household incomes, strengthen livelihoods, and fight poverty.
The livestock restocking programme, implemented by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), provides vulnerable households with a cash grant of UGX 5 million, equivalent to the value of five cows.
The initiative targets communities in the Acholi, Lango, and Teso sub-regions.
According to OPM guidelines, priority beneficiaries include the elderly, former abductees, female-headed households, unemployed youth, persons with disabilities, widows, and widowers. The programme is part of the government’s UGX 80 billion cattle restocking initiative aimed at rebuilding livestock assets and improving household incomes across northern and eastern Uganda.
