The Diocese of Northern Uganda has come out to warn members of the public and development partners against confusing the Reformed Anglican Church with the Church of Uganda, saying the two are not affiliated in any way.
Speaking during a press briefing held on Friday in Gulu City, the Diocesan Secretary Kibwota Samuel said the Diocese found it necessary to clarify its position following reports circulating on social media about the arrival and activities of the Reformed Anglican Church in parts of Northern Uganda.
Kibwota clarified that the Diocese of Northern Uganda has no affiliation, connection or partnership with the Reformed Anglican Church or its leadership and said the Church of Uganda does not share any mission or programmes with the group.
The Diocese expressed concern that the use of the word “Anglican” in the group’s name could mislead the public into believing it is part of the Church of Uganda.
It further emphasized that any fundraising, church planting, ordinations, ministry activities or public statements made by the Reformed Anglican Church should not be interpreted as having the approval or endorsement of either the Diocese of Northern Uganda or the Church of Uganda.
The church leaders have now urged the public and its development partners to exercise due diligence by engaging only through officially recognized diocesan structures. It also reaffirmed its commitment to preaching the Gospel, promoting church unity and upholding sound Anglican doctrine throughout Northern Uganda
