30 Gulu Quarry Workers Trained on Safety and Financial Management

At least 30 female quarry workers at Kidere quarry stone site in Loyobo village, Unyama Sub County, Gulu district have been trained on financial management and workplace safety.

The two days training was organised by the Women in Energy and Extractives Network (WEEN) in partnership with KCB Bank and the Gulu District Local Government, with a special focus on empowering female quarry workers.

WEEN, a Ugandan non-profit platform launched in May 2023 by the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), works to promote gender inclusion in the oil, gas, mining and power sectors while mentoring girl child to pursue careers in the extractives industry.

The training focused on occupational safety, financial literacy, and environmental conservation, management and protection.

Female workers also received personal protective equipment, including work gloves, safety goggles, face masks, first aid kits and handwashing facilities to improve safety and hygiene at the quarry.
