Quack Student Doctor Arrested At Anaka General Hospital

By Omony Denis

Police in Nwoya are holding a suspect accused of impersonating a student doctor and extorting money from patients at Anaka General Hospital.

The suspect, Okello Denis Mike, who reportedly claimed to be a student doctor from Mulago School of Allied Health Sciences, was arrested after a patient reported that he had demanded 300,000 to carry out a surgical operation.

According to Omara Christopher, the Nwoya Resident District Commissioner Omara Christopher, the suspect is alleged to have been soliciting for money from unsuspecting patients for more than seven months before his arrest on Wednesday.

Speaking to Mega FM, Dr. Jolly Joe Lapat, a Medical Consultant at Anaka General Hospital, confirmed that Okello is not an employee of the hospital.

Dr. Lapat explained that the suspect undertook a clinical placement at the hospital between August and November 2025 after presenting an introduction letter from Mulago School of Allied Health Sciences. He added that earlier this year, Okello requested permission to continue working at the hospital while waiting for school to reopen but the request was declined.

However, in March 2026, the hospital management discovered that he had continued operating within the facility without authorization and ordered to leave.
