The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party will dismiss and replace party leaders implicated in the mismanagement of funds meant to support the elections of the local council1 chairpersons.
The Party Secretary General, Richard Todwong said the party will dismiss any party leader implicated in the mismanagement of the funds intended to facility the elections.
His remarks follow the arrest of NRM district party leaders from Alebtong, Amolatar, and Amuru districts over alleged mismanagement of the funds.
Addressing journalists on Monday from his home in Purongo Sub County, Nwoya District, Todwong, said the arrested officials are already facing internal disciplinary proceedings and will be dismiss and replace immediately, emphasizing that the NRM does not tolerate corruption within its ranks.
Todwong warns that anyone found culpable of mismanaging campaign funds will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.
The NRM recently disbursed UGX 7.4 billion to facilitate the upcoming Local Council I (LC1) chairperson and Women Council elections across the country.
Meanwhile the NRM party chairperson for Amuru District, Odiya Wilfred Baguma, on Monday morning handed over himself to police at Amuru Central Police Station after five days in hiding.
It’s alleged that Baguma has been on the spot and hiding for alleged mismanagement of the party funds meant to facilitate the elections of LC1s.
Baguma together with Geoffrey Ojera, the party finance officer and Martine Oyet the party administrator are being accused for diverting more than UGX 2.9 million intended for mobilization activities ahead of the LC1 and Women Council elections.
Ojera and Oyet were arrested earlier, while Baguma reportedly went into hiding before handing himself over to police on Monday.
David Ongom Mudong, Aswa West Regional Police spokesperson confirmed Baguma’s arrest, saying he is being detained at Amuru Central Police Station as investigations into the alleged misappropriation of the funds are ongoing.
