The Gulu City Council Speaker Akena Lamex has praised Mega FM for becoming the first media house to broadcast a Gulu City Council Full Council meeting live, describing the move as a historic milestone that will remain in the records of the council.
The Speaker made the remarks on Thursday during the Full Council meeting, which was broadcast live on Mega FM, allowing members of the public to follow proceedings and discussions of their city leaders.
Akena said the live broadcast marks a new chapter in the history of Gulu City Council, noting that the initiative has opened up the council’s proceedings to a wider audience and strengthened public access to information about decisions being made by their elected leaders.
He described the live broadcast as the first of its kind in the history of the council and said the milestone would forever remain in the books of Gulu City Council.
The live broadcast enabled listeners to hear deliberations directly from the council chambers, including discussions on city programmes, service delivery, revenue performance and other matters affecting residents.
The development comes at a time when public participation, transparency and accountability in local government are increasingly being emphasized.
