The State Minister for Northern Uganda, Beatrice Akello Akori, has urged leaders in Gulu District to put aside political differences and focus on fighting poverty, improving service delivery and accelerating development in the district.

The Minister made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing local leaders during the second Full Council meeting held at the Gulu District Council Hall.

Akori said the election period is over and leaders should now concentrate on addressing the economic challenges affecting communities instead of engaging in political disagreements.

Akori challenged the district leadership to shift its attention from political debates to practical interventions that can help households escape poverty and improve their economic wellbeing.

According to the 2024 Multidimensional Poverty survey released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) in March 2026, the Acholi Sub-region has a regional multidimensional poverty index of 0.332 (or roughly 33.2%), ranking it as the 4th poorest sub-region nationally.
