22 suspected members of a criminal gang known as “Aguu” in Kitgum Municipality have been remanded.
The group were among the 82 who were arrested in an operation by the police and army in Kitgum Municipality.
They appeared at Kitgum Grade One Magistrate Court and were charged with burglary, theft, and common nuisance.
According to Ssegawa Jimmy Ebil, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner 60 suspects were released after screening by the police.
Ssegawa says that the crackdown will reduce criminal activity in Kitgum Municipality.
Ssegawa also said that with the holiday season approaching, security will be enhanced in Pager Division and Central Division.
Joe Oloya, the Aswa East Region Public Relations Officer, expressed concern that after the suspects are arrested, their parents demand their release.
