The Ugandan government has pledged UGX 40 billion to construct a Prosecutors’ Academy in response to the growing complexities of crime.

The facility will be built on five acres in Kawondwe Village, Kalungi Sub-County, Nakasongola District, adjacent to the Immigration Training Academy.

The land was provided through inter-agency cooperation by the Internal Security Organization (ISO).

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Peace Bashabe, Regional Officer for Greater Luwero in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), said the initiative is spearheaded by Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, Uganda’s DPP.

According to Agnes Kainza Nzogi, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the DPP, the Academy will be developed in phases and accommodate 300 to 500 trainees.

Prosecutors will now undergo extended courses lasting over a month, moving beyond the one- to two-week sessions previously conducted in hotels. Nzogi emphasized that the Academy will standardize training while improving prosecution skills.

Justice Abodo, officiating at the groundbreaking, described the Academy as a future center of prosecutorial excellence, preparing prosecutors to uphold the rule of law in an evolving criminal landscape.
