Museveni, Ruto to Commission UGX 7.2 Billion Sebei Cathedral in Kapchorwa

Presidebt Museveni and Ruto

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his Kenyan counterpart, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, will travel to Kapchorwa District on September 28 to commission the newly constructed St. Peter’s Cathedral, the seat of the Sebei Diocese.

The cathedral, located in the heart of Kapchorwa Municipality, cost an estimated UGX 7.2 billion and will serve as the central place of worship and administration for Anglicans in the Sebei sub-region.

It was spearheaded by the diocesan bishop, Rt. Rev. Paul Kiptoo Masaba, with support from the Church of Uganda, the Ugandan and Kenyan governments, Christians, and well-wishers.

With a seating capacity of more than 2,500, the cathedral replaces an older structure that could no longer accommodate the growing congregation.

The project also includes a UGX 750 million guest house and a UGX 2 billion hospital, which awaits equipment installation before opening.

The commissioning comes as Uganda and Kenya enjoy increasingly warm relations under Museveni and Ruto.

The two leaders have previously collaborated on infrastructure projects in the border region, including the Kapchorwa–Suam road, which links Sebei to Kenya’s West Pokot County.
