President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured Ugandans that revenue from the country’s oil resources will be channelled into critical infrastructure development, not luxury imports such as whisky, wigs, or perfumes.
Addressing a campaign rally in Otuke District, Museveni reiterated that once Uganda begins oil production in 2026, the proceeds will be used to construct strategic roads and railway lines that will transform the country’s economic landscape.
The President’s comments followed complaints from residents about the poor state of roads in the Lango sub-region.
He singled out the 88km Lira-Abim road via Aloi in Alebtong and Adwari in Otuke as a top priority for tarmacking, stressing its importance as a lifeline linking Lango to Karamoja.
The President also cited the Soroti-Amuria-Acan-pii road in Otuke as another project earmarked for oil-funded tarmacking.
The President also faulted officials in the Ministry of Works and Transport for neglecting basic maintenance, arguing that even marram roads should be kept motorable.
At the same time, Museveni cautioned the people of Lango against clamouring for roads they do not use productively.
