Army Warns Charcoal Dealers Against Defying Presidential Directive

Impounded Bags of Charcoal

Editorial

Maj. Gen. Keith Katungi, the 5th Infantry Division Commander has warned that any truck found transporting charcoal in violation of the presidential executive order No. 3 of 2023 will be impounded.

Maj. Gen. Katungi said charcoal being transported in the impounded truck will also be confiscated.

According to the senior army officer, a number of trucks are using ungazetted roads to smuggle charcoal out of northern Uganda.

Katungi was addressing security and NFA officials at the 103 infantry battalion headquarters in Pader District on Saturday during the hand over 10 trucks that were impounded after being found transporting charcoal illegally.

The army commander also cautioned truck owners against fueling illegal charcoal business in northern Uganda.

The presidential executive order issued in May 2023 bans large-scale production of charcoal.
