The Bishop of Gulu Archdiocese, Rt. Rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach has consecrated the Paimol Martyrs Shrine and blessed the altar at WiPolo Shrine in Lai Muttu Town Council, Agago District, calling upon Christians to renew their faith and uphold the enduring values of the Uganda Martyrs.

Though the WiPolo Shrine was constructed in 2015, its altar had not been consecrated until this momentous occasion.

WiPolo, meaning “peace” in the Acholi language, holds deep spiritual significance as the place where Blessed Daudi Okello and Blessed Jildo Irwa, two young catechists from Paimol, were martyred in 1918 for refusing to renounce their Christian faith.

Their courage and sacrifice continue to inspire generations of believers across Uganda and beyond.

Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration, Bishop Wokorach described the consecration of the altar as a symbol of purity, unity, and divine presence, a continuation of the martyrs’ unshakable legacy of courage and faith.

As part of the sacred rite, Bishop Wokorach anointed the new altar, a donation from Kotido Diocese, with the holy oil of chrism, which also contained relics of Blessed Daudi Okello and Jildo Irwa.

The consecration comes just days before the annual WiPolo pilgrimage, held every October 20, to commemorate the feast day of Blessed Daudi Okello and Blessed Jildo Irwa.
