The Education Fund dubbed Dero Kwan, an initiative to support vulnerable children in Acholi Sub region through school started on Wednesday on a good note with 1.4 million shillings raised.
The initiative was launched by Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, the Chief Justice during a ceremony held at Atiak Ker Kal Kwaro in Amuru district.
The Chief Justice asked Acholi community aged 18 and above to contribute towards this cause to rejuvenate the declining education system in Acholi which he said has dragged down the region by causing high levels of poverty, low development and suffering.
Owiny-Dollo said the funds will be used to support bright children who are unable to afford to go school due to lack of finances.
Dr. Olara Otunnu who is one of the brains behind the initiative said all 54 chiefdoms in Acholi have been tasked with the mandate of mobilizing resources from their subjects by each contributing a minimum of 1,000 shillings towards the education Fund.
