Corruption Scandal Dominates State House Engagement with Nwoya Leaders

The widespread corruption scandal in Nwoya district on Monday dominated the State House Anti-Corruption Unit engagement with the district leaders.

The meeting highlighted irregularities in recruitment processes and high corruption tendency in the different heads of department.

In April 2021, the Office of the Inspectorate of Government suspended a recruitment exercise in Nwoya District following an anonymous complaint that pointed to several irregularities.

The exercise had advertised 13 vacancies before the suspension was later lifted.

Meanwhile, on April 27, 2026, Nantume Janephar Egunyu, the former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Nwoya, was arrested by the Inspectorate of Government over allegations of abuse of office and theft.

Nwoya Resident District Commissioner Omara Christopher, acknowledge receiving several complains on corruption allegation ranging from the heads of the departments to the district service commission.

Reverend Seter. Dr. Mary Grace Akiror, the Deputy Head of RDC Secretariat and State House Anti-Corruption Unit who headed the team acknowledged the unit receipt of corruption especially on the district service commission.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit team, together with officials from the President’s Office, is currently undertaking visits to the district in Acholi in an effort to address the service delivery gaps.
