The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has called for calm, cooperation, and adherence to the law as the deliberate eviction of the migrant cattle keepers, commonly known as Balaalo across the region commences today Wednesday. The deliberate eviction is expected to take 65 days.

This comes after President Yoweri Museveni last week issued another executive order number 2 of June, 2025 to evict migrant cattle keepers from the region.

The order is in line with the executive order number 3 which was issued in May 2023 ordering the eviction of the migrant cattle keepers from the region.

The second eviction order is also aimed at allowing the audit on cattle keepers claiming they legitimately bought land, have fenced their farms’ sanctuary, have permanent water sources and have not blocked access to the permanent water sources, and therefore cannot be evicted.

Speaking to Mega Fm on Tuesday, Captain David Kamya, the UPDF Fourth Division Infantry Public Information Officer, said all is set to officially kick start the deliberate eviction of over 200,000 heads of cattle from Northern Region. He is therefore urging communities and local leaders to cooperate with security agencies for the exercise to commence peacefully and smoothly.
