The Democratic Front (DF) Party President, Mathias Mpuuga, has appealed to Ugandans to embrace tolerance and respect for divergent political views during the ongoing campaigns ahead of the 2026 General Election.
Speaking at a party mobilization meeting held at Kiyumba Trading Center in Nyendo–Mukungwe Division, Masaka City, Mpuuga cautioned against acts of violence arising from political differences.
He noted that while there is a visible public desire for political change in the country, political actors should use persuasive and peaceful means rather than violence to win support.
Mpuuga urged grassroots supporters and candidates to avoid confrontational politics as they canvass for votes, emphasizing that political competition should not breed hostility among communities.
Drawing an analogy to family life, he said contradictions can be managed amicably without resorting to conflict.
He advised opposition parties to harmonize campaign messages that build hope and unity among their supporters instead of indulging in intrigue, character assassination, and internal divisions.
In recent months, the Democratic Front leadership has engaged in public exchanges with counterparts from the National Unity Platform (NUP) over differing strategies for challenging the incumbent, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
