With the rapid population growth that has created an urgent, critical demand for improved and expanded quality healthcare services, Gulu city on Wednesday welcomes another a state of the art critical care hospital, marking a historic milestone in Northern Uganda’s healthcare sector.

The newly opened facility named C-Care Hospital Gulu, a brain child of C-Care Uganda, is equipped with modern intensive care units, advanced diagnostic laboratories, high-tech operating theatres, and emergency response systems aimed at improving patient survival rates and reducing referrals to Kampala.

Addressing stakeholders during the launch, Azhar Sundhoo, the Chief Executive Officer of C-Care Uganda, said the decision to establish a specialized hospital in Northern Uganda followed the growing demand for advanced medical care in the formerly war ravaged sub region.

According to Azhar, for years, residents have been forced to travel long distances to Kampala to access specialized treatment and as a health care services provider, they decided to open one in the North to end the challenge.

Dr Daniel Oriba Langoya, Associate Consultant in Internal Medicine at the Ministry of Health, said the hospital comes at a time when people in Northern Uganda are in urgent need of specialized medical services that have long been unavailable in the region.

John Baptist Odama, Archbishop Emeritus of Gulu, urged hospital staff to use their God-given abilities to serve people battling different health complications.

The hospital is expected to serve more than 30,000 people annually, including patients suffering from sickle cell disease, accident victims, and other illnesses.
