Gulu City Records Highest HIV Prevalence in Acholi Sub-Region – AIDS Commission Report

Gulu City has the recorded the highest HIV prevalence in Acholi Sub region among the people age 15-49, according to a report from Uganda AIDS Commnission.

The 2024 data shows that HIV prevalence in Gulu City stands at 9.6 percent, making it the city with the highest recorded prevalence in the sub-region.

The figures place Pader District second at 8.4 percent, followed by Omoro at 7.9 percent and Gulu District at 7.5 percent.

Agago District has an HIV prevalence of 6.7 percent, while Nwoya stands at 6 percent.

Amuru District records 5.6 percent, followed by Lamwo at 5.8 percent, while Kitgum has the lowest HIV prevalence in the sub-region at 5.4 percent.

The high prevalence recorded in Gulu City highlights the need for continued HIV prevention, testing and treatment interventions, particularly among people within the reproductive and economically active age group of 15 to 49 years.
