About 90% of the over 100 primary schools, both government and private schools, are implementing the school feeding program, initiated in 2018 by the Ministry of Education and Sport aimed at improving performance and concentration in classes.
The schools implementing the program include Kasubi Army Primary School, Bethel Primary school, Gulu Public primary School, Gulu Army Secondary school, Vanguard primary school and Chris Kasubi Central Primary School among others.
Richard Irwenyo, the Gulu City Education Officer, thanked parents for embracing the school feeding program, a move he says will help improve performances.
According to the 2025 PLE results, Gulu City Education Department only managed to register 770 learners in first grade out of 4449 learners who sat.
School feeding programs are crucial social safety nets that improve child nutrition, boost education, and support families.
They increase school enrollment and attendance while reducing dropout rates.
By providing regular, nutritious meals, these programs improve cognitive development, concentration, and long-term health, combating malnutrition and hunger.
