Gulu Regional Referral CT Scan Breaks Down Again

Bt Tolit Ivan

The Computerized Axial Tomography Scan (CT scan) at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, which had been out of service for months, has again broken down.

The CT scan broke down two weeks ago due to power fluctuation which damaged the machine’s tube which supports its operation.

Since its breakdown, the hospital has been referring patients seeking CT scan to Aber Hospital in Oyam District.

In April 2024 the multi-billion machine, installed at the institution by the Ministry of Health, broke down just about eight months after it began operation.

Walter Uryek, the Hospital Principal Hospital Administrator, attributed the breakdown to power fluctuation and coupled with huge number of patients,

He says the supplier was notified and has ordered for a new tube which is being shipped into the country so that machine is repaired.

Computed tomography (CT) scan is a useful diagnostic tool for detecting diseases and injuries. It uses a series of X-rays and a computer to produce a 3D image of soft tissues and bones. CT is a painless, noninvasive way for your healthcare provider to diagnose conditions.
