Gulu University has officially launched its 2025 Anti-Sexual Harassment Awareness Campaign as part of the international 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
The launch on Thursday took place in the University Main Hall and attracted students, lecturers, administrators, government representatives, and development partners.
The event focused on raising awareness about the dangers of sexual harassment and strengthening knowledge of the university’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy, which was introduced in 2021 with the policy aiming to protect both students and staff by creating clear reporting procedures, enforcing disciplinary action, and promoting preventive strategies across the campus.
The Woman Member of Parliament for Gulu City, Aol Betty Ocan, who presided over the launch in her speech emphasized the need for universities to take firm steps in ensuring safe learning environments.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Gulu University, Professor George Ladaah Openjuru outlined the ongoing efforts to strengthen support systems noting that first-year students, who are often more vulnerable, will receive targeted sensitization to help them make informed decisions and recognize unacceptable behaviour early.
As the 16 Days of Activism continue, Gulu University plans to roll out more sensitization sessions, strengthen peer-support structures, and work closely with student leaders to ensure accountability and long-term behavior change.
