Heightened Security Deployment in Acholi Ahead of Kyagulanyi Rallies

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine

There is heightened security deployment in districts in West Acholi Sub-region ahead of the arrival of the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi to drum up support to unseat President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming general election, which is officially scheduled for Jan, 15, 2026.

Kyagulanyi is expected to begin his campaigns in West Acholi districts on Thursday from Omoro District before proceeding to Nwoya and Amuru Districts on Friday and he will then conclude his campaigns in the sub region with a rally in Gulu city on Saturday.

Robert Okot, the Omoro Resident District Commissioner, said Bobi Wine has been warned against ferrying supporters from other districts to avoid causing unnecessary confrontation with security agencies.

Meanwhile, David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police Spokesperson, said they are well prepared to ensure that people are protected and Kyagulanyi’s rallies go on calmly, warning those planning to cause chaos that police will deal with them.

This comes after the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, has warned that the police will employ proportionate force to enforce compliance with electoral guidelines, following alleged repeated breaches by the NUP, including unauthorized processions and assaults on law enforcement officers.

Kyagulanyi has consistently accused the police of bias and impunity, while the Electoral Commission has faced criticism for perceived inaction.
