St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor Health Training Institute in Ber derge Layibi Division, Gulu City on Friday held its 6th graduation ceremony, celebrating the success of 579 students who completed their studies in various health disciplines.
The event, held under the theme “Empowering to Love and Serve,” reflected the institute’s long-standing commitment to producing health professionals who combine skill with compassion.
This year’s graduating class included 65 students in Diploma Nursing and 30 in Diploma Midwifery.
At certificate level, 212 qualified in Nursing, while 141 completed Midwifery.
The medical theatre program saw 42 students graduate, and in laboratory training, 25 completed Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology while 64 finished the Certificate course.
In terms of gender, the graduation reflected a strong female presence. Out of the 579 grandaunts, 374 were women compared to 205 men, making up nearly two-thirds of the class.
Nursing and midwifery remained female-dominated, while men showed higher numbers in laboratory and medical theatre courses.
Founded in 1973 by the late Dr. Piero Corti and Lucille Teasdale Corti, the institute began with just 10 nursing students. Today, it stands as a beacon of healthcare training in northern Uganda, shaping hundreds of professionals every year.
