The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Equal Opportunities, a standing committee of Parliament tasked with providing legislative oversight on matters of equality, equity, and inclusiveness, Catherine Lamwaka, has urged leaders in Gulu City and Gulu District to strengthen monitoring of government programs to ensure they benefit the intended communities.
Lamwaka made the remarks on Tuesday when the Parliamentary Committee on Equal Opportunities visited Gulu City and Gulu District to follow up on the implementation of various government programs
Lamwaka said political and technical leaders of the city and district must carry out proper monitoring of government programs such as Parish Development Model, PDM, Emyooga, to carry verification of beneficiaries and projects to ensure that no one is left behind in the implementation of government programs.
She also cautioned leaders against misuse and diversion of government funds, saying public resources must be used for their intended purposes.
The Parliamentary Committee on Equal Opportunities is conducting the follow-up as part of its mandate to assess whether government programs are being implemented equitably and whether vulnerable and disadvantaged groups are benefiting.
