St Joseph’s College Layibi and Sacred Hearts SS have successfully defended their titles at the World Embrace Secondary School Basketball League, 2nd Edition, season 2026.
The finals were played on Saturday at the Gulu Community Park in Gulu City during the closing ceremony of the 2nd edition of the league.
In the girls final, defending champions Sacred Hearts SS dominated Hope SS Watoto, winning 52 to 22 to retain the championship. For their win, Sacred Hearts received a trophy, UGX 500,000 shillings in cash, gold medals and certificates for the school and players.
Hope SS Watoto finished second and was awarded silver medals, a school certificate for players, and UGX 250,000 shillings.
St John Paul II College took third place, receiving bronze medals, UGX 100,000 shillings, and school and player certificates.
In the boys final, St Joseph’s College Layibi also defended their title after beating Hope SS Watoto 84 to 49. Hope SS Watoto finished second, while Gulu High School came third.
The prize money and awards for the boys were the same as the girls. First place got a trophy, 500,000 shillings, gold medals and certificates. Second place got 250,000 shillings and silver medals. Third place got 100,000 shillings and bronze medals.
Speaking to our reporter , World Embrace Sports Director Daniel Oringa commended the schools for their discipline and performance and said the league will continue to grow and help in nurturing basketball talent in the region.
