PPU: President Yoweri Museveni has praised the Catholic Church for integrating ideology into youth mentorship programs, emphasizing that Uganda’s development goals can only be achieved through a balanced approach to spirituality and ideological training.
Speaking at the conclusion of a five-day National Catholic Youth Conference held at Bujumbura Cathedral in Hoima Catholic Diocese, Museveni highlighted the importance of guiding young people towards productive and visionary mindsets.
Museveni noted that being young without ideology or spirituality is detrimental, referencing Uganda’s post-independence struggles as a result of identity-driven politics without ideological grounding.
He commended the Church for addressing topics such as prosperity and wealth creation during the conference.
He further warned against identity politics, which he said had historically caused conflicts among religious institutions and tribal groups, hindering economic progress.
He pointed to the success of the United States, where unity and patriotism have fostered economic prosperity despite its diverse beginnings.
The President reiterated his call for Ugandans to adopt the four-acre farming model to transition out of poverty.
