By James Owich

President Yoweri Museveni has praised the Swedish government for offering sanctuary to his wife and four young children during the liberation struggle. President Museveni described the Swedish system of taking in foreigners as friendly.

Museveni said between 1983 and 1986, his wife, Janet Museveni and his children sought refuge in Sweden as he fought what he termed as bad governance.

In a post on X (formerly twitter) on Monday morning, Museveni revealed that Janet, and their children, Muhoozi Kanierugaba, Diana, Natasha and Patience were supported by the Swedish government. The President particularly thanked former Swedish Ambassador Mirjam Blaak for helping his family relocate abroad.

Museveni lauded his wife who turned 76 today for carrying all the burden while he was in the bush. He adds that as he wandered around as a freedom fighter, his wife (Janet) cared for their young children.
