President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has mourned the death of Nathan Okori Adio, the father of the late former Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Jacob Oulanyah, for his role in raising responsible citizens who played and continue to play critical roles in Uganda’s development.

Mzee Okori passed away on March, 20, 2026, from St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu City where he was rushed after suffering respiratory complications.

In his message delivered by Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament during a requiem mass at Christ Church in Gulu city on Monday, Museveni said Okori’s role continues to be exhibited in the lives of his children and grandchildren who are serving Uganda in various capacities.

His child, the late Jacob Oulanyah served as a Member of Parliament for Omoro county and later as Deputy and Speaker of Parliament. Oulanyah died on March 20, 2023, at a hospital in Seattle, United States. One of his grandsons, Ojok Andrew Olanya is the current MP for Omoro county.

While delivering his message, Alfonse Owiny Dollo, the retired Chief Justice of Uganda appealed to the Acholi community to emulate Okori’s zeal of hard work to fight household poverty.

Owiny Dollo informed the mourners that while at his active age, Okori was one of the biggest producers of cotton in Acholiland.

Mzee Nathan L’Okori Adiyo will be buried at his ancestral home in Ayom Lony Village, Lalogi Sub-county, Omoro District, on Tuesday.
