President Yoweri Museveni has said Uganda is steadily moving toward economic stability and the elimination of poverty, once again highlighting the Parish Development Model (PDM) as one of the pillars of the country’s transformation

Speaking during the State of the Nation Address at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, the last during this term, the President described the economy as stable and full of promise, offering an upbeat assessment of Uganda’s progress, especially in empowering communities at the grassroots level.

He recalled that in 1986, when he took power, over 90 percent of the population was stuck in subsistence farming, people were working only to feed themselves, with nothing left to sell or trade in the market.

He noted that the number has dropped significantly, with only 33 percent of households still reliant on subsistence agriculture, a shift he attributed to years of targeted economic and social interventions.

He added that over the past four years, Uganda’s economic growth has been broad-based, inclusive, and pro-poor.
