The establishment of the first community computer library in Nwoya District, has been completed, awaiting official commissioning.
The Digital Community Library, set with support from the Uganda National Oil Company, aims to equip young learners with digital computer skills.
The facility is equipped with 20 computers with internet connectivity and is expected to train up to 80 learners each month.
According to Robert Mukondo, an official with the Uganda National Oil Company, Government officials with Information and Computer Technology skills will be selected and trained to manage the center.
According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics 2024 report, the majority of internet users in Uganda that is 67% primarily engage in social networking.
In contrast, only a small proportion use the internet for educational purposes at 16% or business activities at 13%.
Furthermore, household ICT adoption remains notably low, with just 4% of households owning a personal computer.
