Nwoya Man Arrested for Violating Computer Misuse Act

Police in Nwoya District have arrested a man accused of sharing a nude photograph of his wife, female LCV councilor at Nwoya district local government council, on social media which violates Section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act, an incident link to Gender Based Violence

The suspect, Denis Oyet, was arrested on December 14 and charged under the Computer Misuse Act, which can lead to significant penalties, including fines up to UGX 15M and/or imprisonment for up to 7 or 10 years, depending on the offense, like sharing malicious information, cyber harassment, or unauthorized access.

According to sources, Oyet who had lived with the victim for over 20 years and has four children between them, was reportedly against his wife continuate interest in politics.

Nwoya District Police Commander, Ivan Nuwagaba, confirmed the arrest of the suspect but did not divulge further details.

Alfred Olak, the area councilor five for Got Apwoyo Sub-county, who was among the first responders at the victim’s home, told Mega FM that the suspect allegedly forced the victim to undress under threat of death before taking the photograph.

Olak explained that Oyet later shared the image through WhatsApp, including in private inboxes and group forums involving the victim’s fellow councillors, prompting swift action that led to his arrest.
