Omoro, Gulu Incumbent LCV Chairpersons Defeated in Polls

Okello Douglas Peter Okao, the inaugural LCV chairperson of Omoro district and Opio Christopher Ateker, the inaugural LCV chairperson for Gulu district have been defeated in the Local government and City elections held on Thursday across the country.

Okao, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidate, garnered 10,020 votes, losing to Okot Andrew Obibi, an Independent candidate, who garnered 20,507 to win the election.

A total of 30,524 people voted in the election out of the 78,500 registered voters.

In Gulu district, the Democratic Party, DP candidate, Obol Justin Simpleman, trounced the incumbent LCV chairperson Opiyo Atekeh, the NRM candidate.

According to the official results announced by Kimbooea Erusmus, the Gulu district returning Officer, Obol secured a decisive victory after polling 9,988 votes, defeating Opiyo Atekeh who garnered 3,836 votes.

Other contenders in the race included Lalam Lillian Stella of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who came third with 2,506 votes, Odong Geoffrey, running as an Independent, who obtained 2,143 votes, and Okello Samuel Sebbi of National Unity Platform, NUP who trailed with only 141 votes.

The election recorded a total of 18,614 valid votes, with 582 invalid votes, 43 spoilt ballot papers bringing the total number of votes cast to 19,196.
