Innocent Ahimbisibwe, the Gulu City Town Clerk, has ordered for the demolition of all the dilapidated structures at the Gulu Main Bus Park in Laroo-Pece Div, in a move aimed at decongesting the city and improving urban safety.
The directive followed the inspection carried out by Gulu city engineering department in Gulu main buspark on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the inspection report, many of the structures have outlived their lifespan posing serious risks to the public yet they are being used as lodges, brothels, eating joints and rental apartments among others.
Addressing journalists after the inspection of the bus park on Wednesday morning, Ahimbisibwe, said the current state of the bus park is in a limbo stage and posed a health risks to the public.
Building Experts warn that buildings exceeding their intended lifespan often suffer from structural weaknesses, material deterioration, and outdated systems, making them unsafe for continued use.
