Police Confiscate 20 Shisha Pots From Gulu Night Clubs

Police in Gulu city have started enforcing the 2015 Tobacco Control Act, which prohibits smoking in public spaces.

On Tuesday night, police raided a number of night clubs and confiscated 20 shisha pots during a disruptive operation on smoking points within Gulu city.

The night clubs include Password Bar and Lough and Buganda Pub Highway Lough among other night clubs in Gulu City.

David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West police spokesperson, says the crackdown target night clubs that have continue to orchestrate smoking in public places.

According to Tobacco control act section 12 (2) it is prohibits to smoke in public, workplace, any means of public transport and any place that provides services for children and person that contravene is liable to a fine of 200,000shillings or imprisonment for five months or both.

The law also prohibits any smoking in a radius of 50 meters from the public and its punishment is a fine of 200,000shillings and imprisonment for five months or both.
