Gulu District Local Government and Straight Talk Foundation, a youth centered non-profit organization have resolved their differences that recently emerged over the NGO’s operations.
Trouble emerged on July 15th when Gulu district Chairperson Opio Christopher Ateker and Michael Ssalongo Kakembo, the Entebbe Municipal Member of Parliament clashed during a meeting after Ateker said he was not aware about the existence of Straight Talk Foundation in the district.
This remarks did not go well with Kakembo who accused Ateker of weak leadership and not knowing whatever takes place in his district.
The two parties however resolved their differences during an advocacy meeting held on Tuesday with stakeholders at the district council hall.
Vicky Atim, the Gulu District Vice Chairperson appreciated Straight Talk for their work over the years in helping youth live healthy lives.
Atim then asked Straight Talk Foundation to always work closely with the district by presenting their work plan, budget and quarterly reports.
Carol Karungi, a project officer at Straight Talk foundation said they will engage stakeholders more in their work. Straight Talk Foundation programs focus on sexual and reproductive health, education, gender, prevention of violence against women and girls, climate change, agriculture, youth livelihoods, and youth-friendly service delivery.
